New Waters

Welcome Eddie and great to have you. For me even though I have fished since I was a kid I had not been super active in recent years because I was so focused on the business. Now that I started really getting back into it I have started to go to the places that I fished before with my dad growing up.

With that being said I plan to really focus on fishing up and down the gulf coast as I can leave for two day trips on weekends that my son does not have a wrestling tournament or head out on a Sunday if he does because they are usually only a Saturday.

I am looking for suggestions for places and it seems that the youtube subscriber comments have actually started to suggest certain spots.

What kind of fishing are you into? Fresh water or saltwater?

I fish both salt and fresh. I was born and raised in Freeport to. But moved away to phoenix as. And just moved back and am starting to get back into fishing. I recently had the opportunity to fish with my dad and lil brother. We went to Sargent and fished the canal. I had no idea what to use so I tied on a gulp and caught 2 20 in flounder’s but I believe I just got lucky. If you ever come around Brazoria County , would love to fish with you and explore the waters.

Sounds great! Hopefully we can link up. Man 20 inch flounder I bet those were a fight. The season for them opens on December 15th and I am really looking forward to it again. What spots have you tried so far in Brazoria County?

Surf side and Quintana jetty’s caught a 18 in sheepshead today at Quintana . I’m waiting for flounder sason to open, let’s get together and I will take to my spot in matagorda.

Kool it’s on then. But to answer your earlier question, I’ve fished all over brazoria county, surfside, Bryan beach, Quintana, chocolate bayou, Austin bayou, Demi John island , brastrop bayou. Even San Luis pass, so anywhere there’s water. I’ve been experimenting with using lures I want to get better at it.

If any of your members are thinking about fishing Brazoria county they are catching specs and slot reds on live shrimp on the surfside and Quintana jetty’s about half way down fishing toward the beach side. Because they are dredging down the channel. Surf fishing is hit or miss right now some days the water is green or blue and some days it’s an awful brown color due the dredging.

You know I have never spent much time fishing the surf. I did a short trip with my son and we tried on the surf but I just felt like I could not feel the fish hit. We moved a bit into the water but I was just to worried about him so we did not go much past the knees.

I just saw a video and the guy was fishing the Quintana jettys.

You know I have never been much for setting out a line specifically to wait ti catch something but it seems like that may be the way most people catch the bigger drum and larger reds.

I agree my dad taught me how to set the drag so that when you do get a bite the fish pretty much hook themselves and when you hear the screaming of the drag you just have to grab the rod tighten up the drag and reel. I fish close to the jetty’s where I don’t have to wade out pass my knees. But I was talking about walking the jetty’s and fishing from there, just not all the way to the end like everyone else does. You can still catch the bigger fish.

Have you ever caught any larger specs? I still have not hooked into a really really big one ever. I think I would be pretty over the top if I did. I can’t imaging the rush lol.

I have but it’s been awhile my pb on spec is 28 in. That was awesome experience at the same time my dad caught his pb 38in bull red awesome double up for us. Both caught on finger mullet

Both in the same day? Man thats a life long memory for sure wow! 28 must have been an absolute beast and fight. They call them headshakers so I wonder what that feels like when such a big animal does it.

Feels awesome when we get together I will try and get you on one I have a sot no one knows about that I go to. I constantly catch specs and every now and then I’ll catch a gator spec.

Funny you say Gator Spec because all I picture is those teeth and the speckled trout yellow/mustard mouth. Man 28 inches!!
