Freshwater baits - what is your go to bait?

Always seeing different ponds on my way home. I think I will set up a small ultralight combo for trying some of them out. What are your go to baits for fishing freshwater ponds/lakes?

A friend of mine just told me to get a black “Beetle Spin” with yellow stripe and yellow “Beetle Spin” with a black stripe.

1/4 oz crappie jig or 1/2 oz depending on the wind, usually can find something on a quick trip in local freshwater ponds

Ok looked up crappie jig and this is what I see. Is this what you use? Any specific brand?

Rooster tails work great for me. Especially for multi species. I've gotten crappie and rainbow trout. I've seen others catch bass on em too.
