📅 Fishing Report – April 20, 2025 | Six Mile Pier | 6:00PM–10:30PM

We returned to Six Mile Pier with high hopes and a plan built on good intel. The Saturday prior, we spotted a blacktip fin cutting through the surface, and a local angler told us five had been caught there just a week before. That was all the motivation we needed.

🎯 The Plan:
Our strategy was straightforward: catch a legal-size (14") gafftop, fillet it down, and use the head as prime bait for a blacktip. To bring the predators in close, we brought out an old standby: homemade chum made with oatmeal, canned mackerel, sardines, and a splash of seawater—packed into a mesh laundry bag and dropped off the side to stew.

🎣 Execution:
After a bit of effort, we landed a gafftop just over the size mark. The head went on a 13/0 inline circle hook, rigged to a 48" steel leader—classic shark setup. The rest of the body was tossed into the chum bag to amp up the scent trail.

The rod was set, drag checked, and all we could do was wait.

🌊 Conditions:
The wind was mild, tide was moving just enough to keep the scent line working, and the pier was relatively quiet—ideal for a focused shark hunt.

📍 Notes:
  • The water clarity was fair, with baitfish occasionally flickering near the lights.
  • Gafftop were active enough to make the bait catch viable.
  • No confirmed shark strikes during the session, but the setup was solid.
