Kayak Fishing

Was able to score a nice kayak this weekend for really cheap, does anybody actively kayak fish rather than shore fish? Any tips? Thanks 🙏

What kayak did you get? I've been kayaking for awhile and really just take it out when the weather looks good. But I love going when I do.

I would suggest getting time in the seat to get comfortable. Some are more tippy than others and it makes it harder to fish from. Check out 30MilesOut for a bunch of tips/tricks about kayak fishing. He's been posting videos for years on kayaking and general fishing tips.

Also wherever you launch from, know what the wind and current are doing. A paddle back to the car into the wind and against current is exhausting!
and checkout this forum too if you haven't already found it. They have a lot of good threads on setting up the kayak. http://texaskayakfisherman.com/

Sorry if this reply is too late. I just caught up to the board. I had an Ocean Kayak as well as a couple of Hobies. It depends on what you are targeting. First and foremost watch the tides and the moon cycles. If you are looking for specks, head to Freeport and launch near chocolate bay. There are Oyster reefs where you can pull up and fish off for trout and flounder. If you dont catch anything you can always pull an oyster off the reef and have a dozen. Just bring lime, salt, and your choice of hot sauce lol. If you are wanting some bigger game, try surfside and going past the breakers if you are knowledgable enough (please bring PFD's). Plant the rod in the beach and bring a partner and drop the bait past the second sand bar. MOST IMPORTANTLY. Saltwater kayak fishing is no joke. Please make a float plan and share it with your friends and family before you go out. AND STAY OFF SAN LUIS PASS! Good luck!
