Bass fishing in the RGV?

What’s up, man! If you’re looking to get your son on some bass in the Valley, you’ve got a few great spots to check out depending on how far you're willing to drive and what kind of experience you're after.

🎣 Top Bass Fishing Spots in the RGV:

🟢 Falcon Lake (Zapata)
Probably the best bass lake in South Texas, period. This place is known for big largemouth bass—5-6 pounders are common, and it's a tournament hotspot. Great for a full day trip with the kid if you want serious action.

🟢 Delta Lake (north of Weslaco)
Locals swear by this spot. It’s a solid choice for bank fishing or if you have a kayak. Just double-check access rules—some days they’re weird about kayak launching.

🟢 Edinburg Municipal Park & City Lake
If you want something super kid-friendly and easy to access, these community spots are stocked and have decent bass action. Good place to let your son hook a few and get that confidence going.

🟢 Tres Lagos Park & Town Lake (McAllen)
Urban fishing but with surprising results. Lots of people pull largemouth bass from here. Clean area, easy access, and good for a short outing.

🟢 Llano Grande Lake (near Weslaco)
This one’s a bit more hit or miss and may have some access restrictions depending where you try to launch from, but there are definitely bass in there.

Couple of tips:

  • Make sure your license is current (freshwater).
  • Early morning or just before sunset usually gets the best bites.
  • Don’t be afraid to throw some soft plastics or topwater near structure—Valley bass love that.

Let me know if you want bait or rig suggestions too! Hope you and your boy land some monsters
